What is the difference between business name registration
and company registration

A business name is usually registered by small businesses just starting out while a company is for bigger businesses. Here are some key differences:

  1. A company can own and sell shares to raise funds, a business name can't.
  2. A company has directors and shareholders. The person with the highest amount of shares owns the company while for a business name, the person in who's name the business was registered is the legal owner of the business.
  3. A company can sue and be sued in its name, while a business name can only sue or be sued in the name of the person the business name was registered.

Should i register a business name or company

This depends on where you are currently as a business. If you are just starting out as a small business owner then you can go for a business name.

But if you can, we would strongly advice you register your business as a company, this will open up more opportunities to you.

You will be able to easily  attract investors and sell company shares if your business shows good promise.

You can also bid for big projects and contracts that pays in millions.
